SST Tubes / Gel & Clot Activator Blood Collection Tubes

Gel & Clot Activator Tubes contain both clot activator and serum-separating gel. The clot activator promotes rapid and consistent blood coagulation, while the separating gel forms a stable barrier between the serum and blood cells during centrifugation.
These tubes are designed for the efficient collection, clotting, and separation of serum samples, helping streamline laboratory workflows and improve sample handling. After complete clot formation and centrifugation, the gel barrier helps maintain effective separation of serum from the cellular components, reducing the risk of cellular contamination during subsequent testing.

Features

  • How it works: Gel& Clot Activator tubes contain silica to promote specimen coagulation, together with separating gel that forms a barrier between the clot and serum upon centrifugation.
  • Additive filling: The clot activator is sprayed on the inner wall of the tube and then followed by drying. It will help the blood and additive to mix thoroughly.
  • Operation notice: Invert the tube 6-8 times immediately after blood collection.
  • Minium time before centrifugation:30 minutes after collection.
  • Centrifugation instructions:1700g-2000g for 10minutes at 25℃ room temperature.

Application

Gel & Clot activator tube is used for routine biochemical, immunological, drug testing, tumor markers and other serum immunological tests, therapeutic drug monitoring.

  • Biochemical tests: glucose, electrolytes, liver & kidney function
  • Immunological tests: antibodies, hormones (TSH, cortisol, etc.)
  • Serological tests: infectious disease detection (HIV, HAV, HBV)

Why this product is chosen?

Gel & clot activator tubes contain clot activator and separating gel. Blood clots rapidly after sampling and gentle inversion. During centrifugation, the separating gel migrates under centrifugal force and forms a stable barrier between the clot and serum.

  1. It effectively isolates blood cells from serum, prevents continuous release of intracellular substances and minimizes interference to test results.
  2. Excellent serum separation facilitates long-term specimen storage and transportation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Immediately invert the tube gently 6–8 times after blood collection to fully mix blood with additives.
  • Place the tube upright and allow sufficient clotting time (minimum 30 minutes recommended) until complete coagulation.
  • Centrifuge the sample after clot formation in accordance with laboratory standard protocols.
  • After centrifugation, the separating gel forms a barrier between the clot and serum. The supernatant serum can be used for testing.

Notes:

Avoid vigorous shaking to prevent hemolysis. Ensure complete coagulation before centrifugation, otherwise fibrin strands are likely to occur.

  • Plain tube: No additives; blood clots slowly. Best for tests sensitive to additives like TDM.
  • Clot activator tube: with clot activator. No separating barrier; test samples quickly without long storage.
  • Gel & clot activator tube: with gel and clot activator, Gel isolates serum from clot after centrifugation, suitable for transport and prolonged sample storage.
