PT tube is used for coagulation tests, including clotting time (CT), prothrombin time (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), thrombin time (TT), fibrinogen (FIB), D-dimer (D-D) and prothrombin time ratio (PTR).
PT tubes use 3.2% sodium citrate to bind calcium and prevent blood clotting. The anticoagulation is reversible, which is essential for PT, APTT, D-Dimer and other coagulation tests. EDTA and heparin will interfere with these assays.
A: Double-layer tubes are made of PET tube and PP tube. The outer PET layer maintains stable internal vacuum. The inner PP layer blocks water evaporation and prevents additive loss. This prevents deviation of test results caused by additive concentration variation from moisture loss.
A: Clot formation in anticoagulant tubes is mainly caused by insufficient mixing. If the tube is not inverted promptly or mixed inadequately after blood collection, partial blood fails to contact the anticoagulant and forms clots. This phenomenon does not indicate health problems of the patient.
Recommended operation: Gently invert the tube 6–8 times immediately after blood collection.
